Description : Shipyards are the shipbuilding units where wooden boats are launched to undergo a series of repairs (carnage), such as reef cleaning, reef painting, caulking, cleaning the under water part etc. Carnage is derived from the Italian word "carena" and is the part of the ship that remains underwater (bottom), to which shells and seaweed adhere and which must be cleaned. Another term used is "tarsanas" and no doubt they are an important part of the cultural heritage. In Agkistri there is one of the few remaining traditional tarsanas (shipyard), which still offers services, among others, for the storage of boats.
