  • Type : Item donation

Description : This is a monotype machine from the last century used to produce typographic elements. It was donated to the Municipality of Agkistri in 2003 by retired typographer Logothetis Antonios. The purpose of the donation was for the machine to be placed in the island's library as a museum exhibit. It is one of the best of its kind and is still functional.

Bibliography/Comments : In monotype printing, the operator types the character (letter, number, or symbol), and the machine selects the corresponding mould. The melted metal typographic alloy is then injected into the mold, cooled, and the desired typographic element is produced. The keyboard contains all the characters in specific styles and sizes that can be produced. To create a different font, a section of the keyboard, along with the corresponding moulds, must be removed and replaced with the characters of the desired font.
